19 Blush Placements That Change Your Whole Face
Blush is the fastest way to change how a face reads, and almost everyone applies it in exactly one place, out of habit, forever.
The four zones
High and outward
Swept toward the temple. Lifts the face and elongates it. The most universally flattering placement, and the one most people never try.
Round on the apple
Youthful and soft. Worth knowing that on an already round face this placement emphasises roundness rather than balancing it.
Across the nose bridge
The sunburn placement. Casual and warm, and it works best in daylight – under artificial light it can simply look like flushing.
Low and close to the cheekbone
Sculpts and defines. It also slightly ages the face, which is occasionally exactly what you want and usually not.
Nineteen variations
The nineteen come from combining those four zones with different formulas and intensities – cream high and outward, powder on the apple, a cream base with powder pressed on top for longevity, a draped version carried up into the eye socket, a diffused all-over wash with no defined edge, a concentrated dab blended outward, and so on.

The one rule that matters
Cream before powder, always. Powder creates a barrier, and cream applied over it will drag, patch and lift the powder underneath. If you use both, the order is not negotiable.
Choosing intensity
Apply roughly half of what you think you need, then look at your face in daylight rather than bathroom lighting. Bathroom mirrors are almost always lit from above and overhead light flattens colour, which is why blush so often looks heavier outdoors than it did at home.
